Environmental reviews of previous years

The Environmental Review is a publication that discusses the state of the environment in Estonia and the pressures placed on it. The review compiles the most important topics related to the environment to provide as broad an overview as possible of the surrounding environment. The printed Environmental Review was published every four years in 2005, 2009, and 2013, and it contains a large number of illustrations, tables, maps, and references. Note: Since 2013, the environmental reviews have been compiled as map stories and environmental indicators (see more details below).

The topics covered in the Environmental Review are generally divided into two sections: socioeconomic background and the environment. The environmental section covers a very wide range of topics, so the review aims to remain comprehensive while presenting only the most important information. For readers who have a deeper interest in a specific topic, additional information can be found through the references at the end of each chapter. Each major topic also highlights the legislation that regulates the specific issue. Since the natural environment does not recognize national borders, these are often international directives and agreements, but an overview of national goals and regulations is also provided. The necessary and interesting information found in the publications can be used in various ways – for self-education, planning various activities and developments, or in environmental research studies.

* The activities of the Information and Technology Centre of the Ministry of the Environment were terminated on April 1, 2010, when the Information and Technology Centre of the Ministry of the Environment and the Forest Protection and Reforestation Centre were merged to form the Environmental Information Centre. Since June 1, 2013, the Estonian Environmental Agency has existed, which was created by merging the Environmental Information Centre and the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (EMHI).
